If you had 30 minutes…
Written by investor

As most of you know, Bill and I live in the beautiful Rocky Mountains and while the fires are still pretty far from us it is VERY scary.

In our area the sky is hazy, people are having a hard time breathing, and everyone is on high alert. For the people located at the fire area it is total and complete devastation. It will take over 100 years for the trees to re-populate and the people who do rebuild will have black burned trees to look at every day for the rest of their lives.

It is so sad how much devastation a forest fire can cause and unless you have actually seen it with your own eyes it is impossible to imagine. The first time Bill drove me by a fire that had happened between our house and Colorado Springs we drove for 45 straight minutes with nothing but burned trees and what used to be homes as far as you could see on both sides of the road. Even though that fire had happened a long time ago the devastation was still there. I cried for most of the ride because I had never seen anything like that. It is heart wrenching to see on TV and for us Coloradans it is almost impossible to watch.

I am asking for you to help us by sending supplies – clothes, sleeping bags, toiletries, food, baby supplies – to our house.  We will personally drive the items to the shelters and deliver them for you. EVERYTHING is needed.

Most of those people only get about 1/2 hour to leave their house. Bill and I had a reality-check conversation last week when we had to sit and discuss what would we take if we had 30 minutes to get out. It’s amazing how little your stuff means when you are faced with the true reality of “what means the most to me!”

It’s a good mental exercise for all of us – IF YOU HAD TO LEAVE YOUR HOUSE IN 30 MINUTES AND COULD NEVER RETURN…WHAT WOULD YOU TAKE?

  • Send donation goods to:
  • Help Colorado Wild Fire Victims
  • ATN: Dwan
  • 702 Desparado Road
  • Bailey, Colorado
  • 80421

PLEASE LEAVE A COMMENT with what items you would take if you had 30 minutes to leave and could NEVER come back and I will make sure all your comments get posted. Many of the speakers out there are also supporting this cause and I want to have the MOST amount of goods sent to my house from my peeps so make me proud.  In fact, Cory Boatright helped to make this a charity event across the country…thanks baby!

I’m hoping to see pallets of food and stuff delivered to our house. We have two big trailers so we can take a BUNCH of stuff…so let’s see who the real men/women are here…lol! I will take pictures of the trailers loaded and pictures of us delivering the supplies so that you can see your efforts put into play. It is going to be a great day!

We will be heading over there several times to take supplies so really, reach down in your heart and make an effort here…these people have NOTHING to go back to…NOTHING!

Remember, when people are evacuated you don’t have time to get a U-Haul or anything…you pack and leave and whatever is left behind is burned to ashes.  We are lucky as we have two trucks and two trailers but we would not have time to even use the trailers so pets in one vehicle and stuff in the other.

Here is our list:

* Our pets – two dogs, two cats, and the bird and their food.

* Our pictures and family antiques – we have seven large totes cleaned and ready so we can run thru the house and put the pictures, items handed down from grandparents, Bibles, and those sort of things in totes.

* I would dump everything in the safe into a tote as we have tons of deeds and very important paperwork.

* Our laptops – I would need to keep all of you updated.

* One week’s worth of clothes, toiletries, and a few towels.

It would take us the full 30 minutes (we did a dry run) and that is all we would own. We live in a 6,000 square foot house and as much as I love it and all the stuff in it what really matters is my family (photos and items) and my pets. I want to make sure I can show my grandkids pictures of their great grandparents and have faces to go with the stories they will hear as they grow up – if any of my kids every get busy with it…lol!

Keep up prayers for Colorado and if it heads our way we will be moving in with one of you…lol! Who has the coolest house and lives in the coolest place – lol? Just saying…

Be a Blessing,

Bill and Dwan Twyford

Thanks to everything I learned from Bill and Dwan, I have a considerable amount of stuff to donate, however I need help with a truck! If anyone has a large truck to bring to Niwot, I have at least one large 16′ “POD” of staging furniture, home accessories, toiletries, clothing, etc that can be donated. Let me know if you can help, 303-817-1362. Cindy Weinel
